While attending Hickman High School in Columbia, MO, Blake played for the Prospects and earned a scholarship to the University of Miami. After enjoying a successful college career, Blake was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2008 draft by the San Diego Padres, making his Major League debut a day after his 24th birthday. He has played for the Padres, White Sox, Diamondbacks and Red Sox organizations in his professional career.
